Hamline Night Festival

Description

The goal of the inaugural Hamline Night Festival is to educate the greater Hamline community about the value of night's natural darkness, and the many costs of (and solutions to) light pollution. With a mix of guest speakers and presentations, telescopes, artwork, music, and activities (both indoor and out), the Night Festival is meant to entertain as much as it educates. Everyone is welcome!

In addition to blocking our view of the night sky, light pollution (the overuse and misuse of artificial light at night) has serious costs for human physical, mental, and emotional health; takes a tremendous toll on wildlife; wastes energy, money, and carbon emissions; and---perhaps surprisingly---reduces our safety. The good news? This is one problem in our ability to control. The answer is to use light thoughtfully, responsibly —even beautifully —in ways that enhance our safety, protect our health, and bring back the stars.

ÀÏ·ò×Ó´«Ãº now has a lighting plan designed to do this on our campus. At the Night Festival, we will learn about this plan, what needs to happen for its implementation, and the ways it would improve our community at night.
